The Renault 17 is the almost twin sister of the Renault 15 but differs from it in that it has four front lights (compared to two for the 15). The design of the rear hatch has also changed slightly. The TS version is the sporty version that can reach 180 km/h!

At the 1974 Paris Motor Show the Renault 17TS was renamed the "17 Gordini". This new name was an attempt to fill the gap left by the recently discontinued Renault 17 Gordini, nothing was changed beyond the badging.
